Get To Know Designer Ellinor Halling
After a chilled bike ride I reached Sankt Eriksgatan. This is where Ellinor shares a small workshop with two other designers – all specialized in leather.
When did you realise that your calling was being a leather designer?
When I studied design I was an apprentice here in the studio for almost a year. Helena, who owns the studio is so professional and there is nothing she can’t do with leather. It’s amazing to have her as a mentor and I learn new things every day.
I love to create and work with my hands, and leather is such an inspiring material it’s hard not to fall in love with it.
What would you say are the characteristics in your design?
Scandinavian design with a twist.
What has been your path to where you are today?
It’s hasn’t been a straight path because a few years ago I worked with HR in an office for many years. But I was always so jealous of everyone that got to be creative and create things. It seemed so much fun! Until one day I stepped out of the office, went to an art school and now I get to be creative every day.
What piece of yours would you say has been the most fun to work with?
Can you explain the process you had with this piece?
All the pieces that I create is always things that I want for myself. I wanted a daybed that was elegant, clean and slim design-wise, so I did. Frankly, I just craved for a completely unnecessary but totally beautiful and luxurious piece of furniture. Haha!
What advice would you give to people that would like to reach the point where you are today?
Fake it till you make it!
Thank you so much for you time and for the look into your fantastic world of design. I wish you the very best of luck and hope to see a lot to you in the future.
